Dredging of the entrance channel will be completed this week, an operation that has become annual since the port was taken over by the public sector. This regular maintenance programme is essential to guarantee the navigability and safety of yachtsmen. This year, the operation will remove 2,600 cubic metres of sediment, at a cost of €755,000 excluding tax.
It would have been possible to remove a further 15% of sediment for the same cost, but a proposal to work with the ASL de Port Grimaud I was not accepted by the ASL despite a request from the Commune to work together to optimise dredging for the benefit of recreational boaters. Instead, the ASL, informed on 21/01 of the start of the 2024 operation, chose to plant oleanders in the middle of winter, in the path of mechanical equipment, outside the usual planting period for the species and probably in a bid to stir up controversy.
This choice of behaviour runs counter to the interests of boaters, most of whom are residents of Port Grimaud.
