Météo France has placed the Var department on orange alert for the risk of wave submersion from Friday October 20 at 4:00 a.m.
The greatest vigilance is requested when traveling and to exercise caution near watercourses and the coastline.
Here are some instructions to follow :
General instructions
- Keep up to date with developments by listening to media reports.
- Avoid traveling by the sea on foot or by car.
- If necessary, drive carefully by limiting your speed and do not enter roads exposed to swell or already flooded.

Residents of the seaside or along an estuary:
- Close the doors, windows and shutters on the seafront.
- Protect your belongings that may be flooded or washed away.
- Bring food and emergency equipment.
- Monitor rising water levels and contact authorities.
Boaters:
- Don't go to sea.
- Do not practice water sports.
- Before the episode, check the mooring of your vessel and the stowage of equipment on board.
- Do not leave anything on board that could cause an accident.

Sea professionals:
- Avoid going to sea.
- Be careful if you have to go out.
- On board, wear your safety equipment (vests, etc.).
Swimmers, divers, fishermen or walkers:
- Do not get into the water or swim.
- Do not practice recreational water activities.
- Be particularly vigilant, do not approach the water's edge, even from an elevated point (beach, cliff).
- Stay away from structures exposed to waves (port piers, groynes, seafronts).
